There is a certain allure to game shows that persists to this day, captivating and entertaining television audiences of all ages. As the original genre of reality TV, they offer a unique and fun experience that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home without the pressure of a live studio audience.

Despite their sometimes silly or outrageous premises, game shows remain a beloved staple of television programming. August 16 marked the 20th anniversary of the debut of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", so in honor of this milestone, we have compiled a comprehensive list of the top 25 game shows of all time.

25. "To Tell the Truth"

This classic game show features contestants, otherwise known as "challengers," who are interrogated by a panel of celebrities (including legends like Johnny Carson and Betty White) in an effort to determine who is truly telling the truth about their occupation or identity. While only the real person is obliged to be honest, it's up to the panel to identify who that person is. Originally airing in the mid-1950s and running through to the late 1970s, "To Tell the Truth" has appeared in various forms since then.

24. "Supermarket Sweep"

First airing in the 1960s, "Supermarket Sweep" experienced a revival in the early-to-mid-1990s on the Lifetime network. With a unique premise, teams of contestants answer product and consumer-related trivia questions to earn time to shop in a grocery store-like setting for specified products against the clock.

23. "Remote Control"

MTV's initial attempt at non-music programming ran from 1987-1990, featuring three contestants competing in pop culture trivia. Hosted by the late Ken Ober, and with comedic support from announcer Colin Quinn and occasional guest host Kari Wuhrer, "Remote Control" also introduced viewers to a young comedian/writer named Adam Sandler, who played the recurring character "Stick Pin".
