This is Dylan O'Brien.

American actor Dylan Rhodes O'Brien was born on August 26, 1991[2]. His breakout role came as the supernatural investigator Stiles Stilinski on the MTV drama Teen Wolf (2011-2017). Following his breakout performance as the title character Thomas in the science fiction film trilogy The Maze Runner (2014-2018), he continued to appear in other films. In Deepwater Horizon (2016), he portrayed Caleb Holloway, a survivor of the Deepwater Horizon explosion. In American Assassin (2017), he portrayed counterterrorist Mitch Rapp, and in Bumblebee (2018), he portrayed the title character. He also starred as the protagonist in the upcoming fantasy film Love and Monsters (2020).

Early life

O'Brien is the son of Lisa (née Rhodes), an actress and acting school owner, and Patrick (also a former actor), a camera operator; he was born in New York City. At the age of twelve, he and his family relocated from Springfield Township, New Jersey, to Hermosa Beach, California. [3][4] His ancestry includes the Irish, the Italians, the English, and the Spaniards. After finishing high school in 2009 at Mira Costa, he thought about going into sports broadcasting and maybe even working for the New York Mets. [9]

O'Brien started his YouTube channel and uploaded his first videos when he was 14 years old. A local producer and director approached him during his senior year of high school to have him star in a web series. O'Brien met an actor who put him in touch with a manager [4] while they were both working on the series. After initially intending to study sports broadcasting at Syracuse University[10], O'Brien ultimately decided to switch his major to acting. [11]

Career

O'Brien began his career in the entertainment industry by producing, directing, and starring in a series of short comedic films that he uploaded to his own YouTube channel. He played drums for the local band Slow Kids at Play [12]. [13]

O'Brien got his start in the industry when he was cast as one of the leads in Teen Wolf on MTV, a show based on the 1985 film of the same name. The original plan was for him to play Scott, but after reading the script, he decided he'd rather try out for the role of Stiles. He auditioned four times for the part and landed it in 2010,[14] after which he began performing it. [15]

High Road, an independent comedy film starring O'Brien that was shot entirely without a script, introduced him to audiences in 2011. He had a leading role in the rom-com The First Time the following year.

While on break from Teen Wolf in 2013, he starred in the comedy The Internship, and that summer he filmed the lead role of Thomas in The Maze Runner (2014),[16]. Yahoo! Movies has recognized him as one of 2014's 15 Breakout Stars to Keep an Eye On. Released on September 18, 2015, he played Thomas once again in the sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. [18]

O'Brien was seriously hurt on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure in March of 2016. He had been secured in a harness on the roof of a moving vehicle when he was suddenly yanked off the roof and struck by a third vehicle. Fractures to his face, a concussion, and brain damage were among his many injuries. The accident, he said later, "broke most of the right side of my face," prompting him to have reconstructive surgery. When he returned to the set of The Death Cure in March 2017, it marked the culmination of months spent recuperating and getting back to normal. On January 26, 2018, the film had its world premiere. [22][23][24]

A disaster drama based on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion featured him in 2016. He voiced the CGI lead role of Bumblebee in the 2018 Transformers spin-off film, and he starred as action hero Mitch Rapp in the 2017 film American Assassin. [25, 26] [27]

This year (2019), he had a cameo on the science fiction comedy anthology series Weird City. Both the post-apocalyptic road movie Love and Monsters (filmed in 2019) and the mystery thriller Flashback (filmed in 2018) feature him prominently. [30]

He got the part in The Outfit in February 2021,[31] and they wrapped production that April. Filming for Not Okay[32] concluded in September of 2021, after he had been cast in the role since August of that year. Also in August, he was reported by Discussing Film[34] and confirmed by Deadline Hollywood in October 2021 as having been cast in The Vanishings at Caddo Lake. Season 11 of Curb Your Enthusiasm will feature him as a guest star, it was announced in October 2021. [36] O'Brien starred alongside Sadie Sink in the Taylor Swift short film All Too Well, which premiered on November 12, 2021. On Swift's tenth studio album, Midnights (2022), he was credited as a drummer for the song "Snow on the Beach." [38]
