Actress Morena Silva de Vaz Setta Baccarin[1] ( Portuguese: In Japanese, (moen baka) ; born 2 June 1979)[2][3] is a Brazilian actress known for portraying Inara Serra in the sci-fi series Firefly and its follow-up film Serenity, Vanessa in the superhero comedy franchise Deadpool, Jessica Brody in the Showtime series Homeland, Dr. Leslie "Lee" Thompkins in the Fox series Gotham, and Elena Federova in the NBC series The Endgame In 2013, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on Homeland.
Early life [ edit ]
Baccarin is the daughter of actress Vera Setta and journalist Fernando Baccarin. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has roots in Italy, Portugal, and Lebanon ([3][4]). Morena made her acting debut in a television special when she was just six years old; the special was directed by her grand uncle, a well-known theatre director in Brazil. At the age of seven, she and her family relocated to New York City's Greenwich Village after her father accepted a position as an editor at Globo TV's headquarters there. [8]
Baccarin and her future co-star on Homeland, Claire Danes, both went to public school in New York City and were classmates at Public School 41 and the New York City Lab School for Collaborative Studies. After graduating from the Juilliard School's drama division's Group 29 (1996–2000), she enrolled at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts. [9][10] [11]

Baccarin's breakout film role came in the improvised fashion-world comedy Perfume (2001). That led to a starring role in 2001's Way Off Broadway. [12]
In the Central Park production of The Seagull, she stood in for Natalie Portman. Baccarin made her television debut in the science fiction drama Firefly (2002) as Inara Serra,[14] and she later reprised the role in the film adaptation released in 2005. [15]

Throughout the month of February 2005, Baccarin voiced Black Canary in a number of episodes of the Justice League Unlimited animated series. She played Chloe in the November 9 episode of Season 2 of How I Met Your Mother. 6, 2006 And in 2006, she appeared as a guest star on three episodes of the hit TV show The O.C. Baccarin played a transgender woman named Carmen in the pilot episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia that was never broadcast. [13] In April of 2006, it was revealed that Morena Baccarin would be playing the adult version of Adria, a recurring villain, on Stargate SG-1's upcoming 10th season. [16] She made her debut as adult Adria in the season 10 episode "Counterstrike" (other actresses had played younger versions of Adria). Baccarin's performance in Stargate: The Ark of Truth marked a return to the role. [17]
Baccarin made her New York stage debut at Playwrights Horizons in Theresa Rebeck's televised satire Our House in May 2009. As the leader of the alien Visitors, Anna, she starred in the 2009–2011 ABC series V, a remake of the 1984 series. After the second season finale aired in May 2011, producers made the decision not to renew the show for a third season. The following month, Baccarin became known to television audiences as the conflicted wife of a former prisoner of war on the Showtime drama Homeland[21]. At the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards, held on July 18, 2013, she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in the show. [23]
Baccarin played Agent Karen Walker in the 2015 action comedy Spy, co-starring Melissa McCarthy. Baccarin's breakout role as Vanessa Carlysle in Ryan Reynolds' smash Deadpool came in 2016. She appeared in both Deadpool and its 2018 sequel in the same supporting role (24). For the first time in 2015, Baccarin took on a starring role as Dr. Fox's Gotham's Leslie Thompkins She played the part throughout the show's entire five-year run (see [26]). Her first role in a Brazilian production occurred in 2019 when she portrayed a psychologist on the Brazilian television series Sesso de Terapia (Therapy Session). Greenland, a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Baccarin and Gerard Butler, is set to be released in 2020. [27]
Intimate sphere [ edit ]
Baccarin wed Austin Chick, an American film producer and director, in November 2011. [28] Baccarin and Chick welcomed a son in October 2013. [29] Chick filed for divorce in July 2015, citing "irreconcilable differences." Baccarin announced her plans to marry her co-star on Gotham, Ben McKenzie, and have a child with him in September 2015, shortly after her divorce was finalized. In March of 2016, Baccarin and McKenzie welcomed a daughter. [32] Baccarin and Chick's divorce was finalized on March 18, 2016. Baccarin and McKenzie's engagement was announced in November of 2016. Baccarin's 38th birthday, June 2, 2017, also served as the date of their wedding in Brooklyn, New York [34]. Baccarin and McKenzie welcomed a son in March of 2021.1 [36]
Arguments and participation in politics [ edit ]
In January of this year, she shared her story in an opinion piece[37] for Newsweek. aiding refugees through the International Rescue Committee During her time in Colombia, she conducted interviews with Venezuelan asylum seekers. She expressed concern that the current situation could cause a surge in asylum applications from refugees in the United States. Baccarin's work on behalf of women and girls was inspired by her mother's activism in Brazil. [39][40]
She participated in the Flores Exhibits project in 2019 alongside other creatives, lawyers, advocates, and refugees. [41] She read the affidavit of a migrant child currently being detained in a U. S -Border with Mexico [42][43][44]
