Ms. Dove Cameron

Cameron's full birth name is Chloe Celeste Hosterman, and she was born on January 15, 1996[4][5] on Bainbridge Island, Washington to Philip Alan Hosterman and Bonnie Wallace (who later divorced). Her older sibling is Claire Hosterman. Cameron went to Sakai Intermediate School back when she was a kid [6]. [6] She made her acting debut at Bainbridge Performing Arts when she was just eight years old. Upon the relocation of her family to the Los Angeles area six years later, [7] she participated in the Burbank High School National Championship Show Choir. [8]

Cameron has claimed to be of French heritage and to have a basic grasp of the language. She also has roots in Russia, Slovakia, and Hungary (as shown in [9][10]). [11] She claims that from fifth grade all the way through the end of high school, she was bullied. Cameron, despite the pressures of school and peer acceptance, never lost sight of her goal of becoming a successful actress and singer: "I became very passionate about [pursuing that goal]. I dove in headfirst. In 2011, when she was 15 years old, her father passed away. Cameron, whose father had always called her "Dove," had the name legally changed after his passing. [13][14]

Cameron has performed on stage with Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) since 2007, when she played Young Cosette in a production of Les Misérables, and again in 2008, when she played the lead role of Mary in The Secret Garden. Cameron's role as Alanna in the upcoming Disney Channel comedy series Bits and Pieces [15] was cast in 2012. Cameron played both Liv and Maddie Rooney on the show, which was recast from Bits and Pieces into Liv and Maddie soon after the pilot was shot. On July 19, 2013, the first sneak peek of the series was released.  ( 2013-07-19 ) The series' premiere took place on September 15, 2013 [[]] Despite being a pilot, the first episode managed to pull in 5 With over 8 million viewers, it set a new record for the most viewers in over a year. After 5 years since the premiere of Shake It Up![18], Disney Channel renewed Liv and Maddie for a second season of 13 episodes, originally set to air in the fall of 2014 [19]; the number of episodes was later increased to 24. [20]

Cameron's promotional single, "On Top of the World," a cover of the Imagine Dragons song, was released on August 27, 2013. Her cover spent a total of three weeks on the Billboard Kid Digital Songs chart, where it reached number 17 and stayed for three weeks. The single version of "Better In Stereo" was released by Walt Disney Records on October 15, 2013. When "Better in Stereo" was released, it went straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Kid Digital Songs chart. No. 21 and peaked at No. As a result, Cameron climbed to number one for the first time in his career. 1 hit Cameron confirmed in February 2014 that she had begun recording her first studio album. [24] On June 3, 2014, she dropped her next single, "Count Me In." On the Billboard Kids Digital Songs chart, the song peaked at No. 1. [22] Cameron debuted as Liz Larson in Barely Lethal, an A24 Films release that hit theaters in 2015. [26]

On July 31, 2015, Cameron starred in the premiere of the TV movie Descendants. Six people saw the movie [27]. It was seen by 6 million people and gave birth to Cameron's first two Billboard Hot 100 singles, "Rotten to the Core" (#38) and "If Only" (#94), both performed by Cameron on his own. Other songs from the film featuring Cameron, including "Set It Off" and "Evil Like Me," also charted on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, peaking at #6 and #12 respectively. A Disney Channel Original Movie soundtrack hadn't topped the Billboard 200 chart since High School Musical 2; this one did it. Cameron's rendition of "Genie in a Bottle," originally by Christina Aguilera, was released as part of the Descendants film series [31]. On March 18th, 2016, Disney Channel aired the world premiere of the music video. In less than a month, the music video for the single was viewed 22 million times on YouTube. [32][33]

Cameron and Ryan McCartan started their band The Girl and the Dreamcatcher in 2015. Their debut single, "Written in the Stars," came out on October 2, 2015, [34] and was immediately successful. January 29, 2016 saw the release of the band's second single, "Glowing in the Dark." On April 8, 2016, Girl & the Dreamcatcher dropped their third single, "Someone You Like." On June 17, 2016, they dropped their fourth single titled "Make You Stay." Released on July 29, 2016, Negatives is the band's debut EP and features the hit singles "Make You Stay" and "Glowing in the Dark" alongside four brand new songs. Cameron and McCartan's split in October 2016 led to the end of their musical partnership. The fourth season of Liv and Maddie was officially ordered on December 22, 2015, making it the ninth live-action Disney Channel series to receive such a renewal. In the beginning of 2016, when the season was retitled Liv and Maddie: Cali Style, Cameron began filming. It was revealed afterward [41] that this would be the last season of the show. Later, on March 24, 2017, the series finale of Liv and Maddie was broadcast. [43]

On December 7th, 2016, Cameron starred as Amber Von Tussle on NBC's live broadcast of Hairspray Live! General acclaim was high, and Cameron's work in particular was lauded [44][45][46]. 2017's Descendants 2 is the sequel to 2012's Descendants, and it featured Cameron reprising her role as Mal. The world premiere took place on July 21, 2017 [48][49]. When released individually, "It's Goin' Down" and the rest of the Descendants 2 soundtrack debuted at numbers six and eight, respectively, on the Billboard 200. Thereafter, Cameron appeared as Sophie in a live performance of Mamma Mia! at the Hollywood Bowl. From July 28-30, 2017, the production was in full swing. [51]

Cameron joined Jennifer Aniston in the cast of the Netflix film Dumplin' on August 21st, 2017. In the comedy, Cameron portrayed the role of Bekah Cotter. Cameron signed on for a recurring role in the upcoming fifth season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.[53] in November 2017. Later, it was revealed that Ruby, the daughter of General Hale (Catherine Dent), had played this part. Cameron was given the role of Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider in the animated Marvel project Marvel Rising, which began production in December 2017. Six episodes of Marvel Rising: Initiation premiered on Disney XD on August 13, 2018 [55][56]. Cameron, who was on the run after being falsely accused of her best friend's murder, was the series' main protagonist. Cameron sang the film's theme song "Born Ready," even though her character didn't make an appearance in Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. Here we are in 2019, and Cameron is back in the same role for Marvel Rising: Chasing Ghosts. [58]

After the premiere of Descendants 3, she announced on March 21st, 2018, that she had signed with Columbia's Disruptor Records label and that she would soon begin releasing music. [59] In September of this year, Cameron uploaded two new cover songs to her YouTube channel: "Slow Burn" and "Hymn for the Weekend." It was announced on October 8, 2018, that Cameron would play Cher Horowitz in a stage production of the 1995 film Clueless. [60][61] Cameron co-starred with Renée Fleming in the 2019 London production of The Light in the Piazza. Cameron's first two-sided single, Bloodshot/Waste, came out on September 27, 2019. Later that year, on November 1st, 2019, she dropped her follow-up single, titled "So Good." Later that month, she teamed up with Privé Revaux to create a line of sunglasses. [65][66] Despite this setback, Cameron has remained dedicated to music, releasing the singles "Out of Touch"[68] and "Remember Me"[69], the latter of which features American rapper Bia. [69] Her subsequent single, "We Belong," dropped on July 24, 2020. In the wake of this, on April 2, 2021, "LazyBaby" was released. On July 16, 2021, Cameron was a main cast member on the new Apple TV musical series Schmigadoon! Additionally in 2021, Cameron will voice Mal once again in the animated special Descendants: The Royal Wedding. Her other recent projects include the CW series The Powerpuff Girls as Bubbles[73] and the film Field Notes on Love[74] with Liv and Maddie co-star Jordan Fisher. [75]

Cameron's first original, non-soundtrack single was "Boyfriend," which was released on the 11th of February, 2022. More than 500,000 videos were created with this song playing in the background on TikTok, making it a viral sensation. The single peaked at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100, #9 on the UK Singles Chart, and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Cameron voiced Nate's older adolescent sister Ellen Wright in the Paramount Nicktoon Big Nate, which debuted on February 17 and was based on the comic strip and book series of the same name. [77][78][79] The song "Breakfast" by Cameron was released on June 24. [80][81] The MTV Video Music Awards were held on August 28, 2022, and she performed her songs "Boyfriend" and "Breakfast" during the pre-show, where she also won the award for Best New Artist. Cameron's "Bad Idea" single came out on the 28th of October ([83]). With her debut performance of "Boyfriend" at the American Music Awards on November 20, she won the title of "New Artist of the Year." For Billboard's Rania Aniftos, this was "one of the most solid vocal performances" from the 26-year-old singer, and it was her fourth favorite of the night. [85][86]

Cameron has claimed to be bisexual[87, 88], but in May 2021, she said that the term "queer" best reflected how she really feels about her sexuality. She is a feminist and identifies as such [89]. Between August 2013 and December 2016, she dated Ryan McCartan, her co-star on the Disney Channel show Liv and Maddie. [90][91] On April 14, 2016,[92][93][94] they shared news of their engagement, but by October of that year, they had broken up. Cameron's relationship with Descendants 2 co-star Thomas Doherty lasted from 2017 to 2020. [96]

Cameron's Instagram post from May 2022 revealed her battles with depression and dysphoria. [97][98]

  1. ^ For the record, I'm @dovecameron (as of August 18, 2014). "So. I just wanted to take this time to explain my name I all of you lovelies, because I have seen that there is quite a bit of confusion. My birth name is Chloe. But my daddy called me Dove/Dovey as a nickname since I was very small; just over a year old. As some of you know, my father passed away a few years ago, right around the time I started acting. So, I decided to change it legally in honor of him, which gives me great joy every day that I was able to do something so lasting and permanent to pay homage to his memory. But I still go by Chloe to some family members and Ryan. And some Starbucks employees. So Dove is not a stage name, it's actually a name that means a lot to me for many reasons. I Love you all!"
