Ms. Dakota Fanning

US actress Hannah Dakota Fanning was born on February 23, 1994. She gained notoriety at the tender age of seven for her role as Lucy Dawson in the drama film I Am Sam (2001), for which she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award the following year at the tender age of eight, making her the youngest nominee in SAG history. As a young actress, Fanning was featured prominently in the films Uptown Girls (2003), The Cat in the Hat (2003), Man on Fire (2004), War of the Worlds (2005), Dreamer (2005), Charlotte's Web (2006), and the title role in Coraline (2009).

Fanning then moved on to more serious roles, such as Jane in The Twilight Saga (2009–2012) and Lewellen in Hounddog (2007), Lily in The Secret Life of Bees (2008), Cherie Currie in The Runaways (2010), and Bella in The Hunger Games (2012). Throughout the 2010s, she remained a fixture in indie films like Now Is Good (2012) and Night Moves (2013), as well as Very Good Girls (2013), a comedy-drama, and Effie Gray (2014), a biopic. She had major roles in two 2018 films: the heist comedy Ocean's 8 and the period drama The Alienist. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), directed by Quentin Tarantino, cast her as Squeaky Fromme, a member of the Manson family; in the Showtime biographical drama series The First Lady (2022), she plays Susan Ford, the daughter of former president Gerald Ford.

Early life [ edit ]

Born in Conyers, Georgia, Fanning has always called the Peach State home. Covington, where she enrolled at a Montessori school Heather Joy (née Arrington) and Steven J. Fanning, a native Californian who grew up playing minor league baseball and later becoming an electronics salesman in Los Angeles, Her maternal grandfather, Rick Arrington, played American football, and her aunt, Jill Arrington, was a sportscaster for ESPN. [4] William Farrar, a genteel farmer, is a famous ancestor of the Arringtons. Fanning is Elle's older sister; the family was raised as Southern Baptists. [6]

Career in Acting [ edit ]

1999–2003 [ edit ]

Fanning began her acting career as a young child, performing in plays at the Towne Lake Arts Center in Woodstock, Georgia. She made her acting debut in a 1999 Tide commercial when she was just five years old. She made her acting debut in a guest role on the hit NBC drama ER, and it has remained one of her most memorable performances to this day.

I took on the role of a leukemia-stricken auto accident victim. For my two days of work, I wore a neck brace and tubes in my nose. [7]

After that, Fanning appeared in several TV shows as a guest star, such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Practice, and Spin City. She has also played young female leads in Ally McBeal and The Ellen Show.

Fanning played the role of the daughter in the 2001 film I Am Sam, which starred Sean Penn. The film was about a mentally disabled man's fight for custody of his daughter. For her part in the film, Fanning became the youngest nominee for a Screen Actors Guild Award despite being only seven years old. [8] The Broadcast Film Critics Association named her the Best Young Actor/Actress for her work as well. The song "Across the Universe," originally recorded by the Beatles, was included in I Am Sam, and Fanning's performance of the song was later used in the music video for Rufus Wainwright's rendition of the song. Fanning played the lead young role of Allison "Allie" Clarke/Keys in the 2002 Steven Spielberg science fiction miniseries Taken. By this time, she had already been praised by a number of film critics, including Tom Shales of The Washington Post, who said of Fanning, "has the perfect sort of otherworldly look about her, an enchanting young actress called upon to bring a certain magic to the screen." transport a heavy load "[12]

Fanning portrayed Pita, a young girl of nine, in the 2004 film Man on Fire, starring alongside Denzel Washington as a retired mercenary hired to protect her from kidnappers. "is a pro at only ten years old and creates a heart-winning character," Roger Ebert said of Fanning. She appeared in the tenth season of Friends in 2004, playing Mackenzie, a young girl whose family is leaving the home that Monica and Chandler are purchasing.

Her debut film, starring opposite Robert De Niro in 2005's Hide and Seek. The film received mostly negative reviews, but one critic, Chuck Wilson, called it "a fascinating meeting of equals — if the child star [Fanning] challenged the master [De Niro], the legend might very well blink first." Fanning replaced Daveigh Chase as the voice of Lilo Pelekai in the sequel to Lilo & Stitch, Stitch Has a Glitch, which was released directly to video. Also in 2005, Fanning appeared in a brief role in the film Nine Lives, directed by Rodrigo Garca. In this film, she shared a nine-minute scene with Glenn Close, who said of Fanning, "She's definitely an old soul." She's exceptionally talented, the kind of person who only occasionally appears. During this time, Fanning also recorded the title role in the film Coraline. [16]

Production on Dreamer: Based on a True Story (opposite Kurt Russell) was wrapped up in late October 2004 with Fanning in the starring role.

Her on-screen grandfather, played by Kris Kristofferson, was quoted as saying that she reminds him of Bette Davis. A screening of Dreamer was held for Girl Scouts of the San Fernando Valley Council after Fanning became a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA at a ceremony held in conjunction with the promotion of her role in the film. At the 2008 Toronto Film Festival, Fanning sported a tuxedo.

Fanning then starred in War of the Worlds, co-starring with Tom Cruise. Both films, which were released one year apart (War in June 2005 and Dreamer in October 2006), received positive reviews. "How quickly she understands the situation in a sequence, how quickly she sizes it up, measures it, and how she would really react in a real situation" was one of citation needed]War director Steven Spielberg's highest praises for the actress. Without taking a breath, Fanning began production on her next film, Charlotte's Web, in May 2005 in Australia. It had its world premiere on December 15, 2006, so she didn't have much time to rest.

Press described Fanning's summer 2006 filming of Hounddog as a "dark story of abuse, violence, and Elvis Presley adulation in the rural South." Fanning's parents have been called "unreasonable" for allowing their daughter to film a sex scene in which her character is sexually assaulted. A Reuters report quoted Fanning as saying, "It's not really happening," in defense of the film. We call it acting, and it takes place in a film. "[21]

Also that year, at age 12, she was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, making her the organization's youngest ever member. [23] By the end of 2006, she had made an estimated $4 million, placing her fourth on Forbes' list of "Top-Earning Stars Aged Under 21." [24]

Together with Kate Beckinsale, Guy Pearce, Josh Hutcherson, and Oscar winners Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson, she filmed Fragments - Winged Creatures in the spring of 2007. She portrays Anne Hagen, a young woman who sees the murder of her father and finds solace in faith. Cutlass, one of Glamour's "Reel Moments" based on readers' personal essays, featured Fanning in July. Kate Hudson was the film's director.

Fanning filmed Push, about a group of young American expats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities who hide from the Division (a U.S. government agency) from September until the end of the year. Fanning started filming in January 2008 for the movie version of The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Her two films, the horror animation Coraline and the science fiction thriller Push, were both released on the same day, February 6, 2009.

Dakota and Elle Fanning were originally cast as Kate and Anna in the film adaptation of My Sister's Keeper in March 2008. Dakota Dunning and Elle Fanning dropped out of the film when they found out they would have to shave their heads for the parts. Abigail Breslin now plays lead role of Anna Fitzgerald, while Sofia Vassilieva is now Kate Fitzgerald. [27]

Both New Moon and Eclipse are based on novels by Stephenie Meyer, and both feature Dakota Fanning as Jane, a member of the Volturi Guard. The first film, New Moon, was released on November 20, 2009, and the second, Eclipse, was released in June of 2010. She co-starred with Kristen Stewart, Stella Maeve, and Scout Taylor-Compton in 2010's The Runaways as lead singer Cherie Currie. Fanning then filmed Breaking Dawn, playing Jane again, at the end of 2010 and into early 2011. [30]

U.S. Figure Skating commissioned a documentary film called Rise to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the crash of Sabena Flight 548, which killed the entire American team and forced the cancellation of the 1961 World Figure Skating Championships. Fanning was featured in the film as a narrator. She then recited a poem by U S It was rumored to be a portent from the afterlife for national champion Laurence Owen (who died in the crash). [31][32]

It was during the summer of 2011 that she portrayed Tessa in the film Now Is Good. Additionally, Fanning was chosen to represent Marc Jacobs' Oh, Lola. advertising campaign for the fragrance was deemed inappropriate by the UK's Advertising Standards Authority because it "could be seen to sexualize a child." Released on Netflix on November 8, 2013, she played Annie James in the 2011 film The Motel Life. Effie Gray, starring Elle Fanning, Greg Wise, Tom Sturridge, Robbie Coltrane, Julie Walters, Derek Jacobi, and Claudia Cardinale, was released in theaters that fall of 2011 under the direction of Richard Laxton and the writing and starring of Emma Thompson.

2012–2015 [ edit ]

Starring opposite Jesse Eisenberg and Peter Sarsgaard, she played Dena Brauer, a wealthy financial eco-terrorist, in the August 2012 thriller film Night Moves. Kelly Reichardt helmed the film. Story of three eco-terrorists who work at an organic farm and hatch a plan to blow up a hydroelectric dam (35). [36]

She began filming The Last of Robin Hood, a biopic about Errol Flynn, in January 2013, in which she plays Beverly Aadland. In September of that same year, [37] Fanning was chosen to play the role of Olivia in the film Franny. In November, she landed the role of Viena in the film Viena and the Fantomes, which follows a roadie in the 1980s who tours the United States with a punk rock band. The film was supposed to come out in 2015, but it ended up coming out on June 30, 2020. [40][41]

She did a voiceover for the 2014 animated film Yellowbird in February. [42]

A film adaptation of Laura Lippman's 2004 novel Every Secret Thing starring Diane Lane, Elizabeth Banks, Danielle Macdonald, Colin Donnell, and Nate Parker was released in the United States in May 2015. S

In the same year (2015), Martin Koolhoven announced that Jack Roth would be starring in Brimstone. Fanning replaced Mia Wasikowska, and Kit Harington took over for Robert Pattinson, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter in June 2015. Taking place in Romania, Spain, and Germany, the primary recording sessions kicked off on June 15.

2016–present [ edit ]

Fanning was announced to play Esther Greenwood in the film version of The Bell Jar in July 2016. [43]

Among Neill Blomkamp's experimental short films released by Oats Studios in 2017, Fanning starred in Zygote. [44]

In the 2018 heist comedy Ocean's 8, Fanning made a brief appearance. Starred as Sara Howard in TNT's historical drama The Alienist, based on the same-named novel, the same year. TNT has ordered a follow-up series based on the sequel novel The Angel of Darkness, and Fanning has been cast to reprise her role as Sara Howard. Fanning played Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 comedy-drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood [47], for which she and the rest of the cast were nominated for the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture [48]. Fanning and her sister Elle Fanning will be co-starring in Mélanie Laurent's upcoming film adaptation of Kristin Hannah's 2015 novel The Nightingale, which was announced in December 2019. The sisters' production company, Lewellen Pictures, was announced in March of 2021. MRC Television/Civic Center Media is one of their first-look partners. [51]

Fanning graduated from Campbell Hall School[52] in Studio City, California, in June 2011, where she had been on the varsity spirit cheerleading team and twice crowned homecoming queen. While at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, she studied women's studies from 2011 to 2014, concentrating on how women are portrayed in media. [55]
