Learn When and Where to Catch Up on All of Marvel's Netflix Series Beginning in 2022
After more than two years, all of the titles in the Defenders universe have been added to Netflix's catalog. Now that the heroes of "The Defenders" have been reintegrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there's no better time to catch up on Netflix's Marvel series.
In spite of the hiatus, Disney and Marvel have been gradually reintroducing the characters into the MCU since they once again have the rights to use the characters' license.
The first season of Daredevil premiered on Netflix seven years ago, and The Defenders is widely regarded as a groundbreaking series for both Marvel and Netflix. While Disney is putting a lot of effort into creating new Marvel content for Disney, Netflix has decided to cancel all of their Marvel shows.
Will Netflix ever remove The Defenders?
Due to Netflix's status as the sole distributor, the shows are likely to remain there for the foreseeable future, though they will almost certainly return to Disney when either the licenses expire or Disney purchases them. When it comes to the streaming rights of these shows, neither company has been particularly forthright.
Two Daredevil characters have made MCU appearances so far, one in a theatrical film and the other in a Disney series, so we can assume that Disney is regaining control of the rights to produce new shows based on the characters. There have been rumors that Jessica Jones will next make an appearance on a Disney series, possibly in She-Hulk (although this seems less likely now).
In light of the renewed interest, here is an up-to-date primer on where and how to catch up on The Defenders outside of Netflix.

Expanded guide on the best way to watch the Marvel series on Netflix
The following contains extensive spoilers for each of the aforementioned shows and seasons.
Season 1 of Daredevil
The Netflix premiere date was April 10th, 2015.
Dr. Matthew Murdock Daytime lawyer, nighttime vigilante
Despite losing his sight as a child due to exposure to radioactive material, Matt's other four senses developed to an extraordinary degree.
Matt was an orphaned child, raised by strangers after the untimely death of his father. Without any close relatives and driven by a desire to do right by the underdog, Matt studied law and, in secret, honed his hand-to-hand combat skills so that he could take the fight to the mean streets of Hell's Kitchen.
The show stood out from the pack with its gritty, realistic take on the vigilante genre, and by season's end, I was left wanting more. Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D'Onorfio, is a chilling and imposing presence in every scene, and he keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Season 2 of Jessica Jones
On November 20, 2015, Netflix made its debut.
Jessica, who miraculously escaped the car crash that killed her parents and brother, awoke to find that she possessed superhuman strength. When she grows up, Jessica runs her own private investigation firm, but she has trouble leading a normal life due to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) she developed while under the influence of the brainwashing Kilgrave (played by David Tennant).
After her Superhero career is cut short, Jessica turns to bourbon to get her through the day until she stumbles upon a case that will force her to confront her demons and learn who she really is.
I had high expectations after the first season of Daredevil, and they were more than met. Jessica Jones was a smart and powerful season of television that tackled topics I never expected to see in a superhero show.
Her co-star, David Tennant, who does a fantastic job as Kilgrave, will have you glued to the screen the entire time he's on.
Season 2 of "Daredevil"
Premiered on Netflix on March 18th, 2016
As a result of the events of the first season, Matt Murdock now has to deal with both familiar and unfamiliar foes. Because of his double life, Matt is up against his greatest test to date.
Season 2 of Daredevil has been the most divisive amongst fans of the Marvel TV-verse. When the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) was introduced, the story was split in half, as the saying goes. Although the first half of the season was full of explosions and action, the second half of the season shifted its focus to the blossoming romance between Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios (Elodie Young).
Starring a natural fit in the guise of Jon Bernthal A sequel to The Punisher was released on Netflix, but this one came first.
Season 4 of Luke Cage
Netflix premiere date: September 30, 2016
Luke Cage, aka Carl Lucas, is immune to bullets.
Luke, a former police officer who was falsely accused of murder, wants nothing more than to live a quiet life. Luke, fed up with crime and corruption, decides to use his abilities to make Harlem a safer place to live.
I've been on the fence about this season ever since I first saw Luke Cage, and it's not because it doesn't live up to the standards set by Daredevil and Jessica Jones. The season of Luke Cage has been highlighted by the villain Coppermouth (played by Mahershala Ali) and the show's excellent soundtrack, despite the fact that the show itself is still quite good.
Luke's fight against a Crimelord and political corruption is more grounded in reality than his fight against a psychotic supervillain or an ancient order of Ninjas. Brilliant as Luke Cage, Mike Colter has the voice of an angel and the physique of an NFL linebacker, so you can believe he is the real Power Man.
5 Season One of Iron Fist
Premiered on Netflix on March 17th, 2017
When Danny Rand's parents died in a plane crash, he was only 10 years old. Over the course of more than a decade, Danny was trained by the Monks of K'un-Lun to become the Immortal Iron Fist. Danny, seeking a link to his past, abandons the peace of K'un-Lun and travels to New York. After learning that his father's business partner has taken control of the family's billion dollar company, he vows to do whatever it takes to get it back.
The fourth main protagonist of the Defenders franchise had a disastrous debut. Maybe the least popular protector of them all, Iron Fist, bombed with audiences. Simply put, Danny Rand is not an easily relatable character, and he isn't very likable either. Throughout the season, he shows glimpses of growth, only to revert back to his original flaws.
The comedic group's eventual reintegration into society was a trope that had been mined to death in previous media and was therefore tired by the time it got to this show.
While Finn Jones is a capable enough actor to play Iron Fist, the show's first season was hampered by weak writing and an uninteresting story. In general, Netflix doesn't want viewers to miss out on any of the shows that make up its "expanded universe." However, the issue with Iron Fist is that viewers can skip it and still understand who Danny Rand is thanks to his appearance in the Defenders.
Season 6 of The Defenders
The film premiered on Netflix on July 31, 2017.
The Heroes of New York City are brought together by a series of unfortunate events. In order to save New York City from an impending threat, the city's heroes will need to band together under the name "The Defenders."
I was rather let down after waiting three years to see the TV equivalent of the Avengers; while it was fun to see the coming together of the TV-verse characters, the entire season lacked the excitement I was hoping for. All the Defenders finally met up after 3 episodes, but by the time they were effectively working together, the series had ended. Season 4 was the fourth of what would have been six seasons, and it felt like the end of the show was near. *yawn* The Hand were back to wreak havoc on New York City.
While it's true that the Defenders aren't given the same level of respect as their bigger-screen sibling, this season hasn't been all bad by any means. Having two main characters with extensive martial arts training undoubtedly contributed to the excellence of the fight choreography. Luke and Jessica's banter was frequently hilarious, and the prospect of a bromance developing between Luke Cage and Iron Fist is irresistible. The season was brief, but Sigourney Weaver, spectacular as always, was the highlight.
Season 7 of The Punisher
Initial Netflix Streaming: November 17th, 2017
By killing those responsible for his family's death, Frank Castle learns of a larger conspiracy than just New York's underworld thugs. Frank will use any means at his disposal to exact revenge.
When Netflix's expanded TV Universe needed a hit show, along came Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Since his appearance in Daredevil season 2 was so well received, Netflix has decided to order the Punisher series.
This season of The Punisher did not shy away from what makes the show so popular among fans, and the result was a thrilling and brutal show that delivered on all fronts. Jon Bernthal, who is reprising his role, was made to play him; cold, ruthless, and without mercy, he portrays the character just as much fans of the comics adore him. Despite the show's lackluster reception from both critics and viewers, it's one of my favorites, and I can't wait for season two.
Show #8: Jessica Jones (Season 2)
Date of Initial Netflix Streaming: March 8th, 2018
Having shaken off Kilgrave's influence, Jessica takes on a new case that forces her to revisit her past and the source of her abilities.
The second season of Jessica Jones disappointed me when compared to the first, so I don't have much to say about it. Sometimes a superhero is only as good as his or her villain, and without David Tennant to fill Kilgrave's shoes, this season's story was severely hampered.
Krysten Ritter's performance in her return as Jessica has been consistently strong, and she continues to be the series' shining star despite the fact that her co-stars have had trouble finding their footing. Even though this season wasn't as good as the first, I'm still excited to see where the show goes in its third season because it has been renewed.
Season 2 of Luke Cage ranks as the ninth best television show of all time.
Premiere Date, June 22, 2018 on Netflix
Luke Cage has become a local celebrity in Harlem after his showdown with Diamondback. Now that the streets are clean, both new and old dangers pose a threat to the hero of Harlem's accomplishments.
What had been an outstanding show up until the first season's end had become rather stale, leaving me with a bitter aftertaste. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised by this season. While not the best season of Marvel-related television produced by Netflix, "Power Man and Iron Fist" was still a lot of fun.
They did a great job of juggling the various antagonists, both returning and new ones; Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir), who wasn't quite a villain but more of an antihero, was a particularly welcome addition. Alfre Woodard, who reprised her role as Mariah Dillard, was fantastic as the villain; she was so convincing that I spent the entire time on screen rooting for her downfall.
Season 2 of Iron Fist
Netflix premiere date: September 7th, 2018
With the help of the Immortal Iron Fist, Danny Rand is back in New York to restore order.
Season two has been much better received than season one was, but it still hasn't become as popular as Daredevil or Jessica Jones. It's safe to say that season two of Iron Fist is a much better show than what came before, especially when compared to the initial reactions of fans and critics. Marvel and Netflix haven't greenlit a third season despite enthusiastic fan reception of the second. It's unfortunate that this will be the last time Iron Fist has his own series, but there's still hope for a "Heroes for Hire" series starring Luke Cage and the rest of the team.
Eleventh, Daredevil (Season 3).
Inaugural Netflix Streaming: October 19, 2018
Matt Murdock, who narrowly escaped the events of The Defenders, has sought refuge in the cathedral. While in the hospital for his injuries, Wilson Fisk's release from prison through an agreement with the FBI is revealed. Infuriated by this information, Daredevil abandons his guiding philosophy and becomes intent on doing whatever it takes, including killing, to finally put an end to Fisk. Will Matt finally see the light? Do you think Karen and Foggy can help Matt see the light again?
When the MCTVU needed a hit the most, Season 3 delivered with flying colors. Not only does Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin never fail to impress, but Charlie Cox is phenomenal in his role as Daredevil. The novel take on Bullseye was very realistic and perfectly suited the narrative. It's fair to say that the entire cast deserves praise for their stellar work in Season 3. The cancellation of Daredevil means this will be the final time we see them in their roles on Netflix.
Season 2 of "The Punisher"
The January 18, 2019 premiere date marks the Netflix debut of this film.
This season, Frank Castle was incredible in dispensing his extreme vigilante justice. He was bloodier and more ruthless than ever. Jon Bernthal shines as Frank Castle because he was clearly born to play the role. The second season was a significant step up from the first, but just as the show seems to be hitting its stride, we may have already missed our chance to see The Punisher at his best.
We certainly hope this isn't the final time we see Frank in his white and black uniform, but we're not holding our breath for a third season.
Season 3 of Jessica Jones (13th).
Date of Initial Netflix Streaming: June 14, 2019
Jessica's mother was murdered by her best friend Trish in the second season's climactic episode. How will Jessica's grief over a loved one's passing affect her in Season 3?
"In the series finale, Jessica squares off against a cold-blooded serial killer, and a resolute Trish will stop at nothing to put an end to the evil she has seen in the world." ”
The Jessica Jones series finale closes out Marvel's presence on Netflix.
Defending the Defenders Outside of Netflix
The Defenders haven't been heard from since 2019. That is, until late in 2021, when Marvel was once again granted permission to use the characters in their own canon.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, Matthew Murdock
After the events of Far From Home, Tom Holland's Spider-Man retains the services of Daredevil, played by Matt Murdock.
He only appears for about 2 minutes, but in that time we get to see Matt's lightning-fast reflexes and enjoy some fun references to earlier episodes.
Role of the Kingpin in Hawkeye
Kingpin, a major antagonist from the Daredevil series, makes a cameo in the new Disney series Hawkeye.
It is revealed in episode five that Vera Farmiga's Eleanor Bishop is working with KingPin.
This sentence contains a spoiler: Hawkeye implies (but does not explicitly state) that he dies. Some of his supporters argue that even a bullet to the heart wouldn't kill him. To be determined, I suppose.
On December 15th, Vincent D'Onofrio first hinted at his participation in the series.
