Benedict Cumberbatch's acting credits

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has worked in a wide range of mediums, including film, television, theater, radio, narration, and video games. Before anything else, he spent two seasons with the New Shakespeare Company at the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park. Soon after, in 2005, he took on the role of George Tesman in Richard Eyre's revival of Hedda Gabler, and since then he has starred in After the Dance (2010) and Frankenstein (2011) at the Royal National Theatre. He portrayed Hamlet in 2015 at London's Barbican Theatre.
His filmography includes the TV movies Heartbeat (2000), Silent Witness (2002), and Fortysomething (2003), and the TV movie Hawking (2004), in which he plays Stephen Hawking. Since the show's 2010 premiere, he has portrayed the title role in the crime drama series Sherlock. His acting resume also includes the 2012 production of Parade's End by Tom Stoppard, in which he played the lead role. To Kill a King (2003) was the first of many film roles he would play, followed by Atonement (2007) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). He has played prominent roles in several films, including Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) as Khan Noonien Singh, 12 Years a Slave (2013) as William Prince Ford, The Fifth Estate (2013) as Julian Assange, and The Imitation Game (2014) as Alan Turing. In Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film series (2012-2014), he provided his voice and performed motion capture for the roles of Smaug and The Necromancer. Acting as Doctor Doctor Strange (2016) introduced Stephen Strange to the MCU, and subsequent films Thor Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) all featured him in additional roles.
The British Academy Television Award, the Primetime Emmy Award, the Critics' Choice Television Award, and the Laurence Olivier Award are just some of the many honors Benedict Cumberbatch has received throughout his career. For his performance as Patrick Melrose in the five-part drama miniseries, he was awarded the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. The Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series went to Cumberbatch for his work on "Sherlock," and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Play went to him In recognition of his work as a leading man in the dramas "The Imitation Game" (2014) and "The Power of the Dog" (2021), he was nominated for the Academy Award, the British Academy Film Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Golden Globe.
