Benedict Cumberbatch's acting credits

Benedict Cumberbatch has worked in film, television, and theater, and he has also provided voiceovers for documentaries, radio shows, and video games. It was during his two seasons with the New Shakespeare Company at the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park that he first gained recognition as an actor. He then went on to portray George Tesman in Richard Eyre's revival of Hedda Gabler in 2005, and has since starred in After the Dance (2010) and Frankenstein (2011) at the Royal National Theatre. He portrayed Hamlet in 2015 at London's Barbican Theatre.
Starring as Hawking" target="_blank">Stephen Hawking in the TV movie of the same name, he has also appeared in the shows Heartbeat (2000), Silent Witness (2002), and Fortysomething (2003). Since 2010, he's played the famous detective on the hit BBC series Sherlock. In 2012, he starred in the film version of Tom Stoppard's play Parade's End. In addition to his role in To Kill a King (2003), he has also been in Atonement (2007) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). Film roles include Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), William Prince Ford in 12 Years a Slave (2013), Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate (2013), and Alan Turing in The Imitation Game (2014). In Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film series (2012-2014), he provided his voice and performed motion capture for the roles of Smaug and The Necromancer. To play Dr. Doctor Strange (2016) introduced the character of Stephen Strange to audiences, and subsequent films in the MCU have featured him in various capacities. These include Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
Throughout his career, Benedict Cumberbatch has been honored with several prestigious awards. His performance as Patrick Melrose in the five-part drama miniseries earned him the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. Cumberbatch has won two major acting awards: the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for "Sherlock" and the Laurence Olivier Award for "Frankenstein." He was nominated for an Oscar, a BAFTA, a SAG, and a Golden Globe for his leading-man turns in the dramas The Imitation Game (2014) and The Power of the Dog (2021).
