Assertiveness: Nina Dobrev

Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria but grew up in Canada, made her acting debut in a few small roles before starring as Mia Jones on the CW's Degrassi: The Next Generation (2006-2009). Following her breakthrough in The Vampire Diaries, she went on to star in a number of other films, including the 2012 coming-of-age drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the 2014 comedies Let's Be Cops and The Final Girls, and the 2017 science fiction drama Flatliners. XXX: Return of Xander Cage (2017) was her most commercially successful film. She had lead roles in the comedies Fam (2019) and Dog Days (2018) and the romantic comedies Then Came You (2018) and Love Hard (2021).

Nikolina Kamenova Dobrev, better known as Dobrev, was born on January 9, 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria to computer specialist father Kamen Dobrev and artist mother Michaela Dobreva (née Radeva). There is an older sibling in her family When she was two years old, her family moved to Canada, and she spent her childhood in the Scarborough neighborhood of Toronto. [5] When she was 10, she and her mom spent two years in Bulgaria. [6]

Vradenburg Junior Public School was where Dobrev and J. B Tyrrell Sr When she entered the public school system, she enrolled in dance courses like ballet and jazz and participated in athletic events like rhythmic gymnastics. She attended Armstrong Acting Studios in Toronto, [4] where she studied acting. After that, [7] Dobrev enrolled in Scarborough's Wexford Collegiate School of the Arts's arts program and stayed there until her senior year. [8]

Dobrev started college at Toronto's Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University), where she planned to study sociology before deciding to pursue an acting career instead. [9][10]

Dobrev left Degrassi in 2009 to play the lead role of Elena Gilbert on The CW's supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries, a television adaptation of the book series of the same name. Dobrev played Katherine Pierce, a vampire who was 500 years old and looked exactly like her [3][13] In season 5, she played Amara, a.k.a. the world's first immortal and a Petrova doppelgänger progenitor. [15] In an episode of The Vampire Diaries prequel series The Originals, she appeared as Tatia, the show's doppelganger. Dobrev, who played Elena on The Vampire Diaries for six seasons, announced her departure in April 2015 via Instagram. Dobrev was confirmed to reprise her roles as Elena and Katherine for the series finale of The Vampire Diaries in January of 2017. [18]

In The Final Girls, a horror comedy released in 2015, Dobrev portrayed Vicki Summers. After being cast in the role of flight attendant Izzy in the 2015 film Arrivals,[25] which was later renamed Departures[26] and was set to begin filming in April 2017,[27] she announced her departure from the film industry in August 2016. That same year, she also started filming in Vancouver in the fall for the romantic comedy Crash Pad. [27][28] [29]

In the 2017 action film XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Dobrev played the role of weapons specialist Becky Clearidge. It earned $346 million around the world, making it Dobrev's highest-grossing film to date. She co-starred as Marlo in the new version of Flatliners that same year (number 32). [33][34]

Dobrev was cast as Clem in the CBS sitcom pilot Fam in March 2018. The show was ordered to series in May of the same year. Released on January 10, 2019, its [35][36] premiere On May 10, 2019, following its first season, it was canceled [37]. Dobrev played Chloe in the 2019 Roger Avary thriller Lucky Day. Additionally, she was a part of the cast for the March 2020 release Run This Town. [39] Dobrev will star in and executive produce a television adaptation of the Woman 99 book series, it was announced in July of 2020. [42]

Dobrev is involved with several nonprofit organizations, including Puma's 2011 non-profit Project Pink,[a href="MY_REDIRECT_PREFIXhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed" target="_blank">span>citation needed/span>] which supports numerous breast cancer charities, and Hunger Bites, a group devoted to reducing hunger in 27 districts across Pennsylvania. She is also well-known for her dedication to the WE movement, a charity based in Canada that encourages young people to become changemakers. She went on a Me to We service trip to Kenya and helped construct a school. She was the host for the 2011 Toronto We Day and will be making an appearance at the 2019 WE Day California. She has been involved in many different social and charity causes, including the Elton John AIDS Foundation, among others [46], [47]. [48]

Dobrev holds citizenship in both Canada and Bulgaria. She is bilingual (French and English) and trilingual (fluent in English and Bulgarian and conversant in French) She resided in Atlanta during her time on The Vampire Diaries but relocated to Los Angeles after the series ended in 2015.
