Finally the wait is over!
After a long wait, finally watched the 1st episode and I thought it was good. Positives- Light comedy, no laughter track, great cast, likeable characters, cool concept. Negatives - They didn't introduce the characters properly, Chick flick (maybe), 1st episode wasn't that good.

I think this show has potential and hope the next episode will be better.

Pivoting TV show on FOX: season 1 ratings

FOX has had a tough time establishing new live-action comedies and the network only has one other, Call Me Kat, on the air. Will Pivoting survive where others have failed? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

A single-camera comedy series, the Pivoting TV show stars Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin, Maggie Q, Tommy Dewey, JT Neal, and Marcello Reyes. Set in a small, middle-class Long Island town, the story follows three women who’ve been best friends since childhood. They’re coping with the death of the fourth member of their group. When faced with the reality that life is short, these three ladies decide to pivot. Amy (Coupe) is the fearless producer of a local cooking show who decides to become a better parent to her kids and spouse to her husband (Dewey). Jodie (Goodwin) is a stay-at-home mom of three in a loveless marriage who decides to get in shape with her hot 27-year-old trainer (Neal). Meanwhile, Sarah (Q) is a stressed and recently divorced doctor who wants to simplify her life so she begins working as a grocery store employee. For all three of these women, the untimely and heartbreaking death of their friend serves as the wake-up call they didn’t know they needed.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

3/11 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.

Sometimes life throws us a devastating curveball that we never could have seen coming, even with our eyes wide open. When these curveballs come, we have two options: either face it head-on and try to catch it, or duck out of its way and hope it doesn’t smack you in the face.

One thing’s for sure, though: one of the worst possible plot twists in anyone’s life would be the unexpected death of a loved one.

In Fox’s new single-camera show Pivoting, that’s the kind of unexpected turn of events that the show’s protagonists will be attempting to navigate – but we’ll get to those details a little later!

Pivoting first landed its development deal in November 2019 in a script-plus-penalty deal that included ordering a second backup script. By May 2021, Fox had ordered the project to series.

Here’s everything that we know so far about Fox’s Pivoting!

Who’s in charge of Pivoting?

Comedy writer Liz Astrof is credited as the Pivoting creator, executive producer, and writer. Astrof’s previous works include 2 Broke Girls, The King of Queens, Last Man Standing, and Raising Hope.

She’s working with Aaron Kaplan from his Kapital Entertainment production company, as well as Dana Honor, as fellow executive producers.

Tristram Shapeero is slated to executive produce and direct the pilot.

Lastly, Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment join Kaplan Entertainment as production studios for the series.

What’s Pivoting going to be about?

Deadline reports that the Pivoting logline reads:

“Pivoting follows three women after the death of their childhood best friend. Faced with the reality that life is short, in desperate attempts to find happiness, they make a series of impulsive, ill-advised, and self-indulgent decisions, strengthening their bond and proving it’s never too late to screw up your life.”

The show is set in a “small, middle-class town in Long Island” and brings a touch of comedy to a tragic situation.

Instead of dealing with their grief in small steps, the three remaining best friends – Amy, Jodie, and Sarah – decide that this is the best time to chase happiness while they still have time.

Whether that’s the best course to take or not, well – we’ll have to watch the show to see for ourselves!

Who’s starring in Pivoting?

Amy, the producer of a local cooking show, will be played by Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings); she wants to spend more time with her kids but remains pretty clueless about parenting. Her husband Henry, who is a private contractor, was the next character to be cast and will be played by Tommy Dewey (Casual).

The casting for the second of the three best friends was announced in May. Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time) will be playing Jodie, a mother of three and a wife who, in an attempt to escape her smothering husband, has an affair with the gym trainer (to be played by JT Neal (Bless This Mess).

The latest casting announcement was just this December – Maggie Q (Nikita) is slated to play the last best friend, Sarah! She’s a recently divorced doctor whose wife had an affair, and who’s now on the pursuit for the more simple joys in life.

Fox’s Pivoting is set to premiere on Sunday, January 9th at 8:30/7:30 central. After which (on January 13th) the new comedy series will move to its regular time slot of Thursdays at 9:30/8:30 central.

If you like slice-of-life dramedies, “Pivoting” is about to be your new favorite show. It stars Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Maggie Q as three friends who have to deal with the death of the fourth member of their friend group.

The FOX description teases, “Set in a small, middle-class town in Long Island, NY, single-camera comedy ‘Pivoting’ follows three women – and close-knit childhood friends – as they cope with the death of the fourth member of their group. When faced with the reality that life is short, these women pivot, and alter their current paths, by way of a series of impulsive, ill-advised and self-indulgent decisions. These pivots will strengthen their bond and prove it’s never too late to screw up your life in the pursuit of happiness.”

Coupe plays Amy, the producer of a local cooking show who can manager dozens of employees with ease but struggles to be a present mom to her two children, a 7-year-old boy and an 18-month-old girl. Her husband Henry (Tommy Dewe) is “a contractor who never loses his cool, perfectly counter-balances Amy in all of her flaws.” The way she tries to pivot is to “be a more active, present mother.”

Goodwin plays Jodie, a stay-at-home mother of three who is in a failed marriage. “Her husband is a controlling, finance-obsessed jerk, but Jodie has never even considered that the grass might be greener anywhere else. When she does, her pivot means getting in shape… and maybe more with her hot 27-year-old trainer, Matt (JT Neal), who gives her the attention and excitement she didn’t realize she had been craving for years.”

Q plays Sarah, a doctor with both an M.D. and a Ph.D, “as she will readily let anyone know. Sarah recently divorced her wife and was sent into a tailspin between that and the death of her good friend, so she decides to simply things and starts working in a grocery store.

The press release finishes, “For all three of these women, the untimely and heartbreaking death of their friend serves as the wake-up call they didn’t know they needed. It forces them to look at their lives and ask themselves, is this as good as it gets? Is this where I thought I’d be at 40? Am I happy? Is anyone happy? What is happy? And is it too late to do it all differently? To press the ‘reset’ button?”

“Pivoting” airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. Eastern and Pacific times on FOX.

Fox has ordered the single-camera comedy “Pivoting” for its 2021-2022 broadcast season lineup.

The half-hour series stars Eliza Coupe, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Maggie Q as three women dealing with the death of their childhood best friend. Faced with the reality that life is short, in desperate attempts to find happiness, they make a series of impulsive, ill-advised and self-indulgent decisions, strengthening their bond proving it’s never too late to screw up your life.

The series also stars Tommy Dewey, JT Neal, and Marcello Julian Reyes. Liz Astrof serves as writer and executive with Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor of Kapital Entertainment also executive producing. Tristram Shapeero directed and executive produced the pilot. Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment produce along with Kapital.

Astrof’s past credits include shows like “The King of Queens,” “2 Broke Girls,” “The Conners,” “Trial & Error,” “Whitney,” and “Last Man Standing.” “Pivoting” was originally ordered to pilot at Fox in 2020 but production was delayed due to the pandemic.

News of the series order comes on the same day that Fox announced a Season 2 pickup for its multi-cam comedy “Call Me Kat” starring Mayim Bialik.

“Pivoting” is the latest series pickup Fox has made for next season going into upfronts. Last week, the network ordered the drama “The Cleaning Lady” starring Elodie Yung and the county music drama “Monarch.” Other pickups include the dramedy series “The Big Leap,” an animated comedy set in ancient Greece from Dan Harmon, the drama “Our Kind of People” from Karin Gist and Lee Daniels, and the mockumentary series “This County.”
