Peter Deblier, better known as Kane, is a popular radio jockey who was responsible for creating 'The Kane Show' on HOT 99.5 which ran from 2006 to 2020. He quickly became a nationwide favourite after his D.C. based spot got picked up by 100 stations in Baltimore, Tampa, Louisville among others. The host died suddenly at the Shady Grove Adventist Medical Center on Friday, March 5. Here's what happened to Peter Deibler.

What happened to Peter Deibler?

His unforeseen death was announced on Monday by an iHeart executive and that is when people came to know about an illness he was fighting against. The RJ had maintained silence over his illness even though he was suffering from it for a long time. Assuming that they wanted to respect his decision to remain tight-lipped, neither HOT 99.5 nor his family revealed Peter Deibler's illness, even now.

To think now how he was able to maintain a chirpy and friendly personality all this while even though he knew about his conditions made fans of his work laud him even more. Peter has had a long history in radio. Before "The Kane Show", he worked at various radio stations around Connecticut, Florida and Washington, D.C. His first big venture was "The Extreme Show" which used to air on 93.3 WFLZ in 1998. A decade later, he had become an integral part of every avid radio listener's lives and had created an impact on the radio industry.

iHeartRadio released the following statement to confirm the news:

“We are deeply saddened to share the news that Kane has passed away. Kane has been an important part of our iHeart family for many years, from his early days at WFLZ in Tampa, to his network of stations and success at HOT995 in DC and Club Kane. Please keep Kane’s family and his girls in your thoughts and prayers."

Peter ‘Kane’ Deibler

When news of Peter Deibler’s death became public Monday morning, it brought up positive and negative memories for fans and former coworkers. The popular Top 40 radio host and Montgomery County resident — who went by “Kane” on-air — spent much of his career at Hot 99.5 (WIHT), which is based in Rockville.

Some of Deibler’s former “The Kane Show” coworkers and listeners shared their candid feelings about his passing on air Tuesday morning. The station re-aired that broadcast later in the evening and posted the show online. “Intern John,” who worked with Kane for many years, became emotional at the start of the broadcast and spoke highly of Deibler’s relationship with his two kids. Another Kane Show personality, Riley Couture, said Kane was not someone who wanted people to fuss over him. “He was just a guy … when you were around him, in person and in his presence …,” she said.

Doug Kammerer, chief meteorologist for NBC Washington, called Kane a friend. “He was a pilot and loved to talk about the weather. I will miss our talks and I will miss my friend,” he tweeted. That sentiment was echoed by long-time DC broadcaster Tony Perkins. “I am very sad to hear this news. My condolences to Kane’s family and friends,” Perkins tweeted.

Kane was a friend of mine! He was a pilot and loved to talk about the weather. I will miss our talks and I will miss my friend. https://t.co/drUjx9JpYc

— Doug Kammerer (@dougkammerer) March 8, 2021

Natasha Elisa, Kane’s ex-wife, posted on Instagram. “While it’s no secret that we had a lot of hard times you have to understand that Peter has been a part of my life for the past 21 years. We shared a life together for a long time and I miss him terribly. He loved our girls tremendously, and they loved and needed him right back.” The two had a very public and contentious divorce, in which court records show Elisa sought an order of protection after she alleged Deibler threw her against the wall and caused injury in front of their children.

David Bulitt of Joseph Greenwald & Laake, P.A. represents Kane and spoke to MyMCM about the divorce, noting that he was not representing Kane at the time. Bulitt said the order of protection Elisa filed in 2016, as well as subsequent charges, were dismissed.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CMM7PK0n1T3/

“Peter’s life frankly was his kids,” Bulitt said of Kane. Up until his recent hospitalization, Kane had primary custody of his two children, according to Bulitt. “You can read into that what you want,” he said.

“Their fight is now over,” Bulitt said, adding he wants to work with Elisa and Kane’s father to provide help to the children. “I view it as my responsibility to still protect [Kane] and his legacy.”

For Some Women Who Recall Toxic Work Environment, Kane’s Death is ‘Triggering’

Two of the syndicated show’s former female voices spoke out on Tuesday about their rocky relationships with the late deejay. Danni Starr reacted to his death on Instagram. “My thoughts are complicated. My heart breaks for Sam and Sophie. They have joined the fatherless daughter club and it’s awful,” she said, but addressed what she indicated was an abusive environment for women. “I feel anger. Death doesn’t absolve people from the awful things they did while they were alive. Some people’s heroes are other people’s villains. … It is infuriating to read memorials from people who knew the Kane that I knew and who even experienced similar things as me. Why people choose to romanticize who people were after they die, I don’t know, but it is very much triggering to victims.”

“I don’t know anything about an abusive work environment,” Bulitt said, adding that any questions about Kane’s work environment should be directed at iHeartMedia.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CMND9aVBtob/

According to Bulitt, Kane worked under contract at iHeartMedia until the time of his death. Despite the Kane Show ending in April, Bulitt said he was not terminated from iHeartMedia.

Prior to Starr, Deibler worked with local media personality Sarah Fraser. On her podcast, Fraser said she was also sad for Deibler’s girls, but referenced her good and bad experiences on the show. “It was very toxic working there towards the end. And it led me to therapy. I got into therapy,” she said. “I learned a lot about show business. I learned a lot about chemistry. I learned a lot about work ethic. Kane was a very talented radio personality in that regard. And I take those lessons with me.”

I'm not much of a writer, more of a talker. I share my thoughts on Kane's passing on today's podcast https://t.co/Tzf1V1W7mF

— Sarah Fraser (@SarahFraserShow) March 9, 2021

Bulitt reiterated that he could not speak about the work environment at iHeartMedia, but he told MyMCM that he agreed with Fraser that Kane was a “talented, articulate guy who loved his works.”

iHeartMedia has not returned MyMCM’s request for comment at the time this story was published.

Why was the Kane show cancelled?

There was never an official statement released that gave insight into why the show was cancelled. In April 2020, HOT 99.5 removed ‘The Kane Show’ from their on-air listing. The channel later announced the addition of a new show for that time slot.

At that time, an iHeart executive confirmed that Kane would no longer be part of the weekday-morning broadcast, but added that he remained  a member of the “iHeart family.”

Fans never got an answer as to what happened to Kane at that time. The radio host also decided to stay tight-lipped about the change as he kept away from social media.

Danni Starr and Kane drama explored

The Kane show was cancelled in April 2020, and this news came as a shock to many. However, one person who was not surprised by this was Danni. In a shocking Instagram post, Danni claimed that the show was bound to be cancelled because of the drama it was involved in.

In an Instagram post, she wrote, “CLEARLY everybody who is shocked about Kane forced themselves not to see the long line of women who disappeared from the air as if they never existed, disregarded the constant gaslighting on the air, and failed to read the essay Never Send a D**k Pic in my book #empathyandeyebrows.

She continued, “You still got time lol. Every single word is true and I’m willing to bet stories like this will keep coming out. I was backed into a corner, remember he kept saying I was busy? He was allowed to say anything he wanted on the air and I had to be quiet because “you’re the mother and breadwinner of your family if I were you I wouldn’t jeopardize that.”

She concluded her post by writing, “His cohosts have had to do therapy because of the abuse we endured. I’m not scared in the least bit anymore. I will speak out for all of us and the women who right now are trying to survive a misogynistic, racist, sexist, abusive co-worker. I promise you I will fight for and with you! With love, Danielle. Seriously go buy that book! You should be ashamed you didn’t listen to survivors.”

Kane never responded to these claims. At the same time, the radio channel never revealed what led to the cancellation of the show.

Longtime D.C. radio host Peter Deibler, better known to listeners as Kane, died Friday after “a long illness,” lawyers for his family said Monday. He was 43.

Deibler was host of “The Kane Show” on HOT 99.5 for 14 years and once contributed to NBC4. His program aired in the D.C. area and beyond.

“Although co-hosts came and went, Kane remained a constant, comforting voice for thousands of people driving to work, dropping the kids off at school and running errands,” lawyers for Deibler’s family said in a statement.

Deibler died of acute respiratory distress syndrome, attorney David Bulitt told News4. His death was not related to COVID-19, and drug use was not involved, he said. Deibler was taken to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, Maryland by ambulance about and spent several days in intensive care before his death.

His father, a minister in Connecticut, was with him in his final days.

Deibler was an innovator and a professional, said News4’s Tommy McFly, who once was a competitor.

“Kane changed the sound of D.C. radio. When he and Samy and Sarah got started in 2006, morning shows didn’t sound like that,” McFly said.

Deibler was a father to two daughters, who he often spoke about on the air.

“He made sure they had the supports that they needed and the school that they needed, and he just doted on them regularly. He wasn’t really a dog fan but the girls wanted a dog, so he got a dog,” Bulitt said.

Deibler and his wife went through an ugly and public divorce in 2017.

“The Kane Show” went off the air in April 2020, in what the radio network iHeartRadio described as a cost-cutting move.

iHeartRadio expressed condolences on Monday.

“We are deeply saddened to share the news that Kane has passed away.  Kane has been an important part of our iHeart family for many years, from his early days at WFLZ in Tampa, to his network of stations and success at HOT995 in DC and Club Kane. Please keep Kane's family and his girls in your thoughts and prayers,” the company said in a statement.

Hot 99.5 listeners in Washington, D.C. were surprised when The Kane Show was removed from its on-air schedule. The popular syndicated show of 14 years was instead replaced with Your Morning Show, which brings back the original hosts of The Kane Show without the titular Kane. This sudden change-up comes as a surprise, so many fans want to know what happened to Kane. The rumor mill is in overdrive with theories about Kane’s sudden departure from the show, with people wondering if it has something to do with past legal issues.

What Happened to The Kane Show in 2020?

The Kane Show was part of iHeartRadio’s programming for 14 years, airing on Hot 99.5 stations in D.C., Baltimore, Tampa Bay, and other locations. But, on April 12, it was removed from the on-air schedule without any further information.

The last broadcasts of The Kane Show aired on April 10 and April 13, Your Morning Show began airing in its place. The new show brings back Kane’s former co-hosts Intern John, Riley Couture, and Radio Rose.

Kane, whose real name is Peter Deibler, is not part of the new show. His departure from the show is abrupt and the station hasn’t explained the reason behind it yet. Deibler hasn’t publicly commented on it either.

Social media users are speculating that the radio host was either fired or he quit. The reason behind these unsavory rumors has to do with Deibler’s past arrest.

What Happened to Kane and His Ex-Wife?

Peter Deibler was arrested in May 2016 and charged with second-degree assault on his ex-wife, Natasha Deibler.

In the highly contentious court proceedings that followed, the parents of two daughters together accused each other of substance abuse and unspecified erratic behavior.

The charges were later dropped and their divorce was finalized.

According to Natasha’s personal blog, Peter went on his radio show to announce his divorce and painted her as a gold-digger.

The Kane Show listeners were divided after the incident. While some remained fans of the show, others had wanted iHeartMedia to fire him.

Don’t Miss: Facts About Bobby Bones’ Girlfriend, Caitlin Parker

The re-branding of The Kane Show in 2020 without Kane has once again raised the same topic of discussion.

There are those who are disappointed that Kane is no longer part of the show, while others approve of the decision.

However, it’s not known if the past drama with his ex-wife has anything to do with his departure from the show. There’s also no statement confirming if the host was let go or if he quit.

Intern John credited Deibler with bringing to cast together on the show. He said that even though he is no longer on the show, Kane “is still part of our iHeart Family.”

This could be a sign that Kane might not have been fired; maybe he could make a comeback in another show on iHeartMedia.

Former Kane Show personality, Danni Starr, who had her own contentious exit from the show in 2016, made an appeal to iHeartMedia to explain what’s happening to its loyal audience.

Her Instagram post seemed to imply there’s more going on than we know, suggesting that there are “victims” and “non-disclosures” involved. However, there’s no official information on these allegations.

Dear @iheartradio when you announce that you fired @kaneshow I certainly hope you tell the truth about why. Please don’t paint a pretty picture. You owe it to ALL of his victims and the listeners to tell the truth. I also hope you lift all the non-disclosures you had his victims sign – you knew what you were doing and WHO you were protecting when you muzzled us. May God have mercy on you for the things you covered up and tolerated. -Danielle

Hopefully, Starr’s Instagram plea and the fans’ requests work and the station can explain the reason behind Kane’s exit.

Updated: with comments from Dennis Lamme, president of iHeartRadio in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Maryland radio personality Peter Deibler, best known as host "Kane" of nationally syndicated morning show "The Kane Show," was arrested last Friday after allegedly assaulting his soon-to-be ex-wife Natasha Deibler, according to court records.

His show airs in the Baltimore market on the popular top 40 station Z104.3.

The initial warrant for his arrest was issued May 25, the day he was charged with second-degree assault, according to Montgomery County District Court records. Deibler, 39, was arrested last week and released the same day after he posted a ,500 bond.

According to Natasha Deibler's statement in the court protection order petition, Peter Deibler had threatened her on the phone before she arrived at his Bethesda home to pick up their two daughters. Once she entered, he grabbed her "forcibly," she wrote.

"I told him to stop. He was hurting me and [the] children were present. He then wrapped his left arm around me, lifted me off the floor with both arms and threw me into a wall in [the] hallway," Natasha Deibler stated in a written statement in court documents. She suffered a sprained knee, bruising, a black eye and a head injury, she wrote.

Natasha Deibler has since sought a temporary protective order, which has requested that Peter Deibler not be allowed to contact her, her children or visit them at her Potomac home.

Judge William Graves Simmons ordered and filed the temporary order Monday morning.

Peter Deibler, who has hosted his radio show since 2006, was absent from the show Monday, the day of the hearing. The website for iHeartRadio, which airs "The Kane Show," noted beside Monday's podcast file that the radio host had been absent for other reasons.

"Kane got stuck in an elevator so enjoy some of the show's favorite moments from the past couple of months!" states the website.

In a call Friday morning, Dennis Lamme, president of iHeartRadio in the Mid-Atlantic region, said Peter Deibler was on vacation until June 29, a break scheduled prior to his court appearance. In the meantime, the station will play "The Kane Show's" "best of" programming, he said.

Lamme would not comment on Deibler's arrest or court case for "privacy reasons." He also had no comment about the station's "stuck in an elevator" characterization of Peter Deibler's absence Monday.

A hearing for a final protective order will be held June 30, when the temporary order expires, according to court documents.

The couple, whose divorce has been pending since it was filed last year, have both publicly discussed their ongoing split. Peter Deibler has discussed it over the air on his Rockville-based morning show, and Natasha Deibler has written about it on her personal blog, "Little Pink Monsters," referring to her husband as "P."

Her last post on May 23, just days before the alleged assault, she blogged that it was the one-year anniversary of the day Peter Deibler asked for a divorce.

Natasha Deibler and Peter Deibler did not immediately respond to phone calls seeking comment from The Baltimore Sun.

POTOMAC, MD — An assault charge filed against Peter Deibler, the host of the syndicated radio talk show "The Kane Show," by his estranged wife has been dropped by prosecutors, who say the purported victim wouldn't talk to them.

Deibler, 39, of Rockville, was arrested June 17 on charges he shoved his wife, Natasha Deibler, into a wall. He was charged with second-degree assault, according to Maryland court records, and released on ,500 bond.

The couple is in the midst of a nasty divorce, says The Washington Post.

According to Maryland online court records, the charge was dismissed on June 29.

The Mongtomery County state's attorney's office said investigators had been unable to interview Natasha Deibler, which led to the dismissal of the charge.

"Based on the hearing and on more than a dozen efforts to contact, meet and work with the original complainant, our front line prosecutor had reason to believe that the case should not be prosecuted," Ramon Korionoff, spokesman for the state's attorney's office, told the Post.

Deibler's nationally syndicated radio show is based at HOT 99.5 FM in Rockville.

A temporary protective order was issued June 20 which barred Deibler from contacting his wife or entering her Potomac home. But that order expired after a late July hearing in which Circuit Court Judge Terrence McGann decided that Deibler had tried to close the door to his apartment when Natasha Deibler tried to force her way inside.

The Washington Post report of the July hearing says both spouses claim the other has abused substances and acted erratically.

Natasha Deibler claims that on May 25 her husband grabbed her and threw her into a wall as their daughters watched, resulting in a sprained knee, head injury, bruises and a black eye, according to the Post.

"It's an accusation that's unfounded," Peter Deibler told the newspaper.
